HEALTH CARE: Reform? Or Regret?

March 21st, 2010

Posted by Mary Moody

We’ve heard spin, hyperbole, and promises. Most politicians have an agenda. But the American people want the truth.

Some facts about health care reform as presently proposed by the Obama Administration in March 2010:

It will “only” cost $900+ billion.

It will “reduce the deficit by $130 billion in the first 10 years.

159 government departments and agencies will be involved in administering it.

The IRS will be the enforcer.

Everyone (or is it only CITIZENS?) will be REQUIRED to have health care insurance.

We will pay taxes for the reforms beginning this year.

Most benefits don’t begin until at least 2014.

A majority of Americans oppose the health care bill being considered, would prefer to see the plan scrapped and reform to start over, and fear the government more than they do insurance companies. A huge majority, 76% rate their insurance coverage as good or excellent.

Given these facts, why are Democrats pressuring Congress to pass this bill and pass it now! Pressure so intense, so manipulative that many of the deals being offered border on unethical if not illegal. (See questions and comments about the government’s shutting off water to the California Central Valley and recent announcements about possible votes for health care in exchange for more water. [http://american-conservativevalues.com/blog/
or http://nrcc.org/blog/blogitem.aspx?id=261.] As I heard earlier today—recent dictators Saddam Hussein and Robert Mugabe have coerced citizens of their countries by withholding food and water.

* * *
OK—so let’s “discuss” some of these facts.

It will “only” cost $900+ billion.

Well how will THAT impact our country’s credit rating? Moody’s Investor Services, whose credit-worthiness ratings impact interest rates the federal government must pay on treasury notes, has said that maintaining our AAA credit rating “… will invariably require fiscal adjustments of a magnitude that, in some cases, will test social cohesion.” [quoted: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/16/business/global/16rating.html]

THAT sobering warning was based on current law—not even factoring in the impact of passing this new health care bill !!

And even if it didn’t cause us long-term, major problems with our credit worthiness, government estimates of entitlement programs are notoriously off (and always under-estimated).

The proposed system is already implemented in Massachusetts. David Axelrod has referred to the MA health care system as the “pilot program” for the proposed federal health care reform. Tim Cahill, State Treasure of MA related that the universal health care system instituted in MA 4 yrs ago was SUPPOSED to accomplished, and was said it WOULD accomplish, all the things the current federal proposed legislation is supposed to do. And it has not worked.

It hasn’t brought down costs, and in fact, he says their STATE would have gone bankrupt if the US government had not been overly generous and propped up that system with federal stimulus dollars. He said the program continues to increase costs to individuals and the state, and their budget deficit grows.

He warns, based on the actual experience of running this “pilot Program” of health care in MA, that that if this health care reform bill passes it will bankrupt the US in 4 years.

It will “reduce the deficit by $130 billion in the first 10 years.

But that’s not counting the $208 billion price tag for the so-called Doctor Fix, the separate legislation that will increase Medicare reimbursement to physicians. YES, that IS a health care cost, but by putting it in a separate bill, Democrats can say the Health Care Reform bill will reduce the deficit. More fuzzy math. More fuzzy TRUTH!

159 government departments and agencies will be involved in administering it.

Oh yes, more government bureaucrats—THAT will reduce cost.

Dennis Cauchon reported in the Dec. 11, 2009 on-line edition of USAToday that

“The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.
Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.
Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.” He added that not only were federal government employees’ rate of pay rising faster, the “average federal worker’s pay to $71,206, compared with $40,331 in the private sector.” [http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-12-10-federal-pay-salaries_N.htm]
So how does that factor into SAVING money in health care insurance?

The IRS will be the enforcer.

Every month the IRS will be tasked with checking that 300 million+ people have government-approved health insurance, and will have power to fine you $2,200 or up to 2% of your income if you don’t. (Yea! 16,500 new IRS employees. MORE of those highly paid fed employees.) The IRS will also be able to share your personal information with the Dept. of Health & Human Services.

Plus, the IRS has a track record. Do we want MORE of their intrusion into our lives with their fantastic record customer service, fair treatment, and ensuring compliance? ABC News reported that nearly 100,000 civilian federal employees owe the IRS $962 million in back taxes yet the IRS isn’t collecting it. So is it only PRIVATE CITIZENS they harass?
[http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Tax/100000-federal-employees-owe-irs-back-taxes/story?id=10125860&page= 1]

Everyone (or is it only CITIZENS?) will be REQUIRED to have health care insurance.

The only requirement for this mandate is that one is alive. Since when does the federal government have legitimate power to force us to buy something just because we are alive?

Yes, governments require us to have licenses to drive or do any number of jobs, but we always have a choice of whether or not we want to engage in that activity.

The Bill uses questionable accounting methods.

We will pay taxes for the reforms beginning this year.

Most benefits don’t begin until at least 2014.

The bill uses “fuzzy” bookkeeping (in the real world, it would be illegal) by applying one pool of money to meet two different costs. Even the CBO—which must score the bill it’s given even if the bill is impossible, illegal, or unethical—says the proposed reductions in cost are incorrect BECAUSE of this accounting trick.

This health care bill infringes on our rights and freedoms as American individuals. It transfers too much power to the federal government. It will add to the crushing debt of this country. And make no mistake:

This health care bill is just a first step. Pelosi, Harkin, even President Obama himself as far back as 2007 have been telling us they want—and intend to get—a single-payer system. But that will take transition step to achieve. THIS BILL IS THAT STEP. We Americans must wake up, stand up, and protect our rights from usurpation by the state. And many, MANY will pay a price if we do not.

Our rights and our country are at stake.
Even our flag seems to be weeping.

A Shameful Way to Treat Americans

I own a truck.

I believe that most people who drive trucks use them to do constructive things that most times you wouldn’t be able to do with a car. Then again I realize there are a lot of people that don’t do anything constructive any more. Just read the story we have here about “The Ant and Grasshopper” along with the video and I think you will get the point.

Back to the subject of trucks and people (voters). I see all kinds of things in the back of trucks:
washers
dryers
refrigerators
snowblowers
concrete
bricks
2×4’s and plywood
carpet
firewood
toolboxes

In fact I challenge anyone to carry around 1 ton of wood pellets in the trunk of their car.

The point is:

These are the people who are contributing to the backbone of our country. They are the ones building, manufacturing, creating the future for our children. These people are necessary, should be listened to, and not treated as inferior or not worth the president’s time.

If you watch the video below you will see that these “truck drivers” are not only a significant part of our country but I believe you will be surprised at the attitude the president and his wife have towards this general populace.

What did you hear in the SOTU speech last night?

Here’s what I heard:

Arrogance. Blame. Repackaged programs that the American people have already rejected.

The self-appointed Parent-in-Chief chastised “Republicans” for doing nothing but saying ‘No’ to his agenda. He rebuked Democrats for not getting his health care agenda through. And reprimanded them both for not reining in spending.

Has this man ever heard of LEADERSHIP?

How can hiring more czars than any other president be considered “reining in spending”?

What twisted logic leads to bloating a budget (EPA’s) by one-third, then calling it cost-cutting to freeze it at that level? Or grows government programs, spends billions, and calls it “job creation”? Every government job is paid for by taxpayers. Only private sector jobs really grow the economy!

What arrogant propagandist could say (with a straight face yet!) that people (i.e. Conservatives & Republicans) who made dozens of suggestions, offered amendments, and proposed bills, but who were shut out of the negotiations on health care—to say nothing of shut-out of the legislative process by sly parliamentary maneuvering—did NOTHING BUT SAY NO?!

Arrogant is one of nicest things I could call a manipulator like that.

What I’d like to KNOW (and believe me—I have my opinion!) – is he JUST arrogant? Or is he an unsurpassed obfuscator who believes he can call “night” “day” and make it so?

My opinion: The SELF-APPOINTED FATHER (POTUS) does NOT KNOW BEST. It is just a case of:

THE EGO HAS LANDED

Let me hear your opinions.

A Tale of Woe for Hardworking Americans

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

Two Different Versions…………….. Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’

Acorn stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, ‘We shall overcome.’ Rev. Jeremiah Wright then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper’s plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

OBAMA AND DEMOCRATS SUPPORT VOTER INTIMIDATION

January 15th, 2010

Written by C T Ruth on 1/15/10

Outrageous!

The Democrats—under the leadership of President Barack Hussein Obama— are depriving the American people of free elections AND justice.

The record:

(1) Black Panthers on video, standing in front of doors of a polling place in Philadelphia for the November 2008 waving a nightstick and standing in front of door into voting place. A poll watcher said the Black Panthers had “been here for about an hour and they told us not to come outside because a black man is gonna win this election no matter what.” Another man (white) was told by a nightstick-holding Black Panther-garbed man: “We’re tired of white supremacy,” and then smacked the nightstick into his hand repeatedly.

Voters intimidated.

Charges filed.

Men refuse to answer charges (that response typically means a person is guilty, or at least not contesting the charges). So the US had basically won the case. THEN, unexplicably, the US Justice Dept. DROPS THE CHARGES.

After numerous requests to the Justice Department for information on the case and WHY the charges were dropped, the House Judiciary Committee considers an order compelling Eric Holder to release data from investigation to the Committee.

Members vote–straight along party lines: 14 yes, 15 no.

Write them and praise those who voted to check up on Holder’s stonewalling. Note the ones who didn’t—AND VOTE THEM OUT! [List of members appears at end of post.]

(2) Depart of Justice Punishing equal treatment under the law and promoting racism.

Christopher Coates (as reported by Hans von Spakovsky on Tuesday, January 12, 2010), is a DOJ attorney (and long time civil rights advocate) who is being “punished” by the DOJ for bringing the initial charges against the Philly Black Panthers. Why did he bring the charges: Because, he says, the Voting Rights Acts statute protects “all American voters from racial discrimination and voter intimidation, and is not limited to protecting only racial-minority or language-minority voters.”

Read for yourself the article and his words here: http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MGExODhjOWY2NTMyN2M3ZGFjNjY0MzhhZTEyMjU5NmY=

Jan Tyler, in her article “Revenge and Racism at DOJ condoned” reports on the “new racist policy of selective enforcement. Only white on black cases will be considered, as evidenced … Read her article here: http://www.examiner.com/x-28242-Election-Reform-Examiner~y2010m1d13-Revenge-and-racism-at-DOJ-condoned

More sources here, too: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2426830/posts

(3) Combine these things with the known (and just imagine the as yet unearthed) instances of ACORN voter registration fraud, and obviously we have a pattern of trying to subvert free and fair elections in the United States.

Not the “change we can believe in” that voters expected!

IMPEACH Attorney General Eric Holder.

Slip Up? Or Revealing Slip?

December 30th, 2009

I hold President Barak Obama responsible for the terrorist attack (failed though it was) on Northwest Airlines flight #253 on Dec. 25, 2009.

I’m not saying this because I’m a raging conservation and blame every inconvenience on him. But there was bungling here, and it can’t be blamed on George W. Bush. In Obama’s first week as president he reminded folks “I won,” then proceeded to put his imprint on U.S. policies—both national and international.

After the terrorist’s attempted obliteration of NW #253, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told the nation, “The president has asked for two reviews to take place …. a review of the procedures that in some cases are several years old.” [Face the Nation, CBS News, Dec. 27, 2009]

Well now. Either President Obama thoroughly looked into and revised national security policies and procedures when he became president – and his administration failed. Or he neglected to address national security issues (preferring instead to apologize for our country’s behavior, and to express his willingness to dialogue with everyone) – leaving us vulnerable to attack.

So did our Commander-in-Chief fail? Or was he AWOL? Incompetent? Or Impeachable?

What’s your opinion?
